Specialist in Psychiatry and Psychotherapeutic Medicine
General Practitioner

Dr.in Maria

Langer-Kopecek

Born in New York, I completed my education in Vienna. After studying medicine at the University of Vienna, I gained experience at the Adula Clinic in Germany, specializing in psychosomatics and psychotherapy. Subsequently, I pursued training as a general practitioner in Salzburg and attended TCM seminars with Dr. Florian Ploberger, a distinguished TCM physician.

Following the birth of my first child, I not only successfully completed my general practitioner training in Vienna but also earned a qualification as an academic hospital manager at Vienna University of Economics and Business. Later, I concluded my psychotherapy training (logotherapy and existential analysis following Viktor Frankl) at Danube University Krems. Following maternity leave with my second child, I completed my specialization in psychiatry and psychotherapeutic medicine at the 2nd Department of Psychiatry (headed by Dr. Langer) at the former Otto Wagner Hospital. My work primarily involved the outpatient clinic for general psychiatry, neurology at the Otto Wagner Hospital (headed by Dr. Lackner), as well as electives at the addiction center and forensics (headed by Dr. Schindler).

Presently, I serve as a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapeutic medicine at the Ottakring Clinic's special outpatient clinic for peripartum psychiatry. Here, I provide care for mothers and fathers experiencing mental health crises around the time of childbirth until their child is one year old. Assisting patients during this unique phase of their lives, as they transition into parenthood, holds particular significance for me.

Over the years, I have enriched my life and medical career (doctorate obtained in January 2001) through continuous professional development (e.g., Orthomolecular Medicine ÖÄK). My approach integrates a comprehensive understanding of the body (as a general practitioner) and an openness to naturopathic treatments into a holistic strategy for addressing your symptoms. Recognizing the interconnectedness of body and mind, I emphasize that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. For instance, a deficiency in nutrients can manifest symptoms similar to mental illness, while prolonged physical stress may also trigger mental health issues. Incorporating herbal preparations (phytotherapeutics) and micronutrients, either as an alternative or supplement to traditional drug therapy, can enhance the long-term success of treatment. Together, we will devise a treatment plan to significantly improve your symptoms, as there is always a way.

About Me

I am particularly dedicated to supporting parents after the birth of a child. The arrival of a child is a transformative event eagerly anticipated by all involved.

However, the security and love intended for the child can be burdened by insecurities, fears, and more severe mental health issues. Unfortunately, some parents withdraw during such crises and avoid seeking help.

Studies show that at least 10 percent of mothers experience depression and anxiety peripartum (during pregnancy or after childbirth).

Methodik

Existenzanalyse

I do not treat patients struggling with substance addiction. If you require support in this regard, resources are available.

As an elective doctor, I do not have health insurance contracts.

Therefore, services are not directly billable to statutory health insurance via the e-card. Payment for your visit can be made immediately afterward, either in cash or by card. Subsequently, you can submit the fee note, along with the payment confirmation, first to your statutory health insurance company and then, if applicable, to your private health insurance company. Most statutory social insurances typically reimburse a partial amount, up to 80% of the cash tariff.
